Imagine a place where people live and learn together. Where elders
learn with youth and immigrants learn with people born in Portland.
Where people celebrate their culture, from Maine, to Africa, to Central
America, to Asia – participating in performances, classes, sharing food
together and expanding their horizons. Imagine a place where we learn
to live cooperatively-sharing our resources, knowledge, skills,
passions and dreams. A place where people could own their own homes
together and afford to live there. On Munjoy Hill, the Community
Building Collaborative is realizing this vision at the Adams School.
The
Community Building Collaborative formed in February with a goal of
realizing a collaborative community center in Portland. We had
participated earlier in the community visioning session on Munjoy Hill
about the Adams School and saw an amazing potential to use our energy
and resources to realize this vision with the community. Since
February we have taken great steps to turning this vision into reality.
We
have developed a proposal for the Adams Community Living and Learning
Center that includes many of the key elements coming out of the
community visioning and community design days for the Adams School.
